Everyone can do something to help prevent violence against women and their children. … ~ OurWatch.org.au

The above quote was provided approximately 6 years ago when the below post was written.

Today, the issue of violence against women is still at the forefront of agenda in Australia and without saying, an entrenched scab for Australian women and children living with the experience of violence.

We must however also make mention of violence against men as this has also become highlighted as an issue in society.

National Plan to Reduce violence

The Australian Government recently released the first ever National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children.  Purportedly grounded in irrefutable evidence, the twelve year plan is a pivotal step forward in our country addressing the reality of violence against women.

An initiative of COAG, it is endorsed by every state in Australia.

With that, comes the responsibility to ensure that the twelve year action plan is supported by government policy, legislation and funding support.  And, that the not-for-profit sector works in partnership with government to achieve the goals of the plan.

The conference, supported by the Queensland government, is stated to be about examining the National Plan and what it means for Queensland.

“With a focus on practice, policy and legislation, it is about learning from other jurisdictions as well as our own.  It is about partnering together across community, government, not-for-profit and corporate arenas to achieve long lasting solutions to the inconvenient reality of violence against women and their children in Australia.”

The conference is offered by The Violence Against Women Queensland Alliance of Networks.

Although it is about Queensland’s response to the National Plan, we know content will be of great relevance to our colleagues and community nation-wide, and we look forward to sharing this with you.
